In cross through Kansas and Nebraska I saw service stations with E85 fuel that was just a lot more expensive diesel. Can I use this in my diesel engine?

    No. E85 is 15% gasoline and 85% alcohol. It can be burned in some gasoline engines but not in diesels.

    An alternative for gasoline not diesel you can run biodiesel though its usually b10 b20 etc good luck.
