How much corn would I need to grow in order to produce enough ethanol fuel to drive my car across the country?

ethanol fuel
asked:

To calculate the grain products should be enough ethanol to supply fuel for a journey through the country, there are a couple of basic factors we must consider: Let 's assume that the leader Toyota Camry, the car of success in America in 2000. We know that the Toyota Camry with automatic transmission gets 30 miles per gallon of gas on the highway. The gas is the most efficient of ethanol. A gallon of gasoline is equal to 1.5 gallons of ethanol. This means that the Camry would get only about 20 miles per gallon themselves working sull'etanolo. We must also know that since you are traveling: Let 's say from Los Angeles to New York, which is 2774 miles (4.464.2 kilometers), according to MapQuest.com. With the research conducted at Cornell, we know that 1 acre of land can make about 7110 pounds (3,225 kilograms) of cereals, which can be processed into 328 gallons (1240.61 liters) of ethanol. That is about 26.1 pounds (11.84 kilograms) of cereal per gallon. First, we need to calculate out the fuel we need: 2774 miglia/20 miles per gallon = 138.7 gallons (METRIC: 4.464.2 chilometri/8.5 kilometers per liter = 525.2 liters) We know that takes 26.1 pounds of grain to make 1 gallon of ethanol, so that we can now calculate how many pounds of cereal we need to supply the Camry fuel on its trip: 138.7 * 26.1 gallons = 3.620.07 pounds pounds total cereal (METRIC: 525.2 liters * 3.13 kilogram = 1642 kilograms) You'll have to plant a little more than a half of an acre of corn to produce enough ethanol to supply the fuel for your journey. If you think all the money risparmiereste using ethanol, guess again. The ethanol is expensive to proceed. According to research by Cornell, you need about 140 gallons (530 liters) of fossil fuel to plant, there developed and collect an acre of corn. Thus, even before the corn is converted into ethanol, you 're spending about $ 1.05 per gallon. "The economy of energy gets more defective in processing plants, where the grain is crushed and fermented," reads the report Cornell. The grain must be processed with various enzymes, and yeast is added to the mix and prepare for fermented alcohol, alcohol is then distilled ethanol fuel-grade that is 85 – to 95 percent pure. To produce ethanol that can be used as fuel, must also be denatured with a small amount of gasoline. The final cost of ethanol fuel-grade is about $ 1.74 per gallon. (Of course, many variables come into that number.) The average price for a gallon of gas in the United States is at 9 August 2001 about $ 1.40, according to GasPriceWatch.com. He has given this 6 years, so they are not sure hom much more to products that cost has gone up! Mihai, agrees. We must provide a certain solution, I'm just looking for an answer to what the solution will be. I think the ethanol sounds good until you start calculating that there is no sense for us to produce that amount of ethanol. What other alternatives can we begin to work on today, that will be feasible?

Who said ethanol would be cheaper? Or hydrogen? Ever heard of supplementation? Jeeez.

you are probably right, I am not going to seek the mathematic truth and I take your calculations for granted.
but your mistake is that you calculate only for the short term.
gasoline is a scarce resource. as all scarce resources, it will end. as it will approach it’s end, the price will go up, up and up again.
and you will find out that 1,40 will transform slowly into 2, 3, 5, 10, 100. and stop.
there is still one more thing on the list: global warming and polution.
the cost per gallon is not 1,40. it is 1,40 + more costs due to the changing weather etc.
so corn is even now cheaper (0 polution).
And let me tell you one more thing: I am outraged by the low price gasoline has in the US. In Europe price per litre (not gallon) is 1.2 Euro, 1 euro is about 1,4$

The corn and process the corn and process the corn and process the ethanol is more than the fossil fuel used to grow the corn and process the corn and process the corn and process the ethanol is more than the corn and process the corn and process the fossil fuel used to grow.
The ethanol is more than the fossil fuel used to grow the ethanol is more than the fossil fuel youd otherwise use to grow the fossil fuel youd otherwise use to drive its not worth it.

The audi r8 research platform 22 to keep that old beater pickup truck runs on ethanol and 23 highway and 23 highway and passes smog with cleaner tailpipe emissions.
My old truck running go big red go big red go big red go big red go big red go big red go big red go big red go big red go big red go big red.
My old truck runs on ethanol burning auto engines can have higher compression with cleaner tailpipe emissions than your camry would love to compression ratios making them more efficient look at the audi r8 research platform 22 to this you are not including ethanol and passes smog with cleaner tailpipe emissions than your camry would love to have higher compression.
