Is it possible to work in lab without an advisor?

methanol fuel
dorian113 asked:

I have to generate biodiesel fuel using methanol, ethanol and possibly the propanol. And I was wondering if I can go to a laboratory in a university or somewhere else and use their equipment. If so where?
