Can I remove my gas logs and make my fireplace wood burning?

wood gas
Mike Hunt asked:

Never use my fireplace to gas because of the cost of natural gas, however, that I wanted to remove my strains of gas, powering off the gas and not realize the burning of wood. Is that possible / safe? It is all the fireplace and chimney of the brick. It has an exhaust pipe reasonably large so I think that could accommodate the smoke. Whoever has done this with a fireplace that was built as gas?

They were building a new house and were wondering, is it cheaper to build a gas fireplace or a chimney of the expression of the woodstove.
