Can I remove my gas logs and make my fireplace wood burning?

wood gas
Mike Hunt asked:

Never use my fireplace to gas because of the cost of natural gas, however, that I wanted to remove my strains of gas, powering off the gas and not realize the burning of wood. Is that possible / safe? It is all the fireplace and chimney of the brick. It has an exhaust pipe reasonably large so I think that could accommodate the smoke. Whoever has done this with a fireplace that was built as gas?

Can burn wood in a fireplace that has been converted to gas?

wood gas
Russ H asked:

The original fireplace was designed for wood but has an accompanying gas installed. I have seen devices gases that can be used to provide a wood fire started, so it seems that this should be an end to use the gas device installed to do this, right? Or is there a special device that is required to burn wood or gas or just serve as an starter for the gas fires of wood.
