Not sure if I have a gas lighting wood burning fireplace or a gas fireplace. How can I tell the difference?

However, switch doesn 'of venting; t want to move, the cold air and brick hits the fan are charred and incrinati. So, I know that needs control and work. I have seen devices gases that can be used to provide a wood fire started, so it seems that this should be an end to use the gas device installed to do this, right?
